What if rest is the work?

Youʼve been taught to earn your rest.
To hustle first, crash later.
To tick off every task before you're allowed to exhale.
And so, when you're tired —
you keep pushing.
You call yourself lazy.
You think, “Iʼll rest once I finish this.”
“Just a little more.”
But what if weʼve had it backwards?
What if rest… is the work?
What if slowing down isnʼt a distraction from your progress —
but a part of it?
Because burnout doesnʼt build beautiful things.
Exhaustion doesnʼt create your best ideas.
And pushing through everything isnʼt strength —
sometimes, itʼs fear.
Rest doesnʼt mean youʼre falling behind.
It means youʼre listening.
To your body. To your mind.
To what actually needs care.
You donʼt have to crash to deserve a break.
Youʼre allowed to pause just because.
Because youʼre human.
Because youʼre here.
Because you matter — even when youʼre not producing.
So take the nap.
Go on that walk.
Stare at the ceiling if you need to.
Youʼre not lazy.
Youʼre living.
And that, in itself, is enough.
